In Greek mythology, Poseidon (the Greek counterpart of Neptune) is a son of the Titans Cronus (Saturn) and Rhea. Fearing a prophecy that one of his offspring would overthrow him, Cronus swallowed each of his children as they were born. However, Rhea managed to save their youngest child, Zeus, and later, Zeus compelled Cronus to regurgitate his siblings.

Poseidon, together with Zeus and Hades (Pluto), played a vital role in the Olympian gods' triumph over the Titans in the Titanomachy. After the war, the three brothers drew lots to divide the universe among themselves:

Zeus (Uranus) received the Sky,

Poseidon (Neptune) received the sea,

Hades (Pluto) received the underworld.

As the god of the sea, Poseidon was often portrayed as a strong, muscular man wielding a trident, which could command the oceans and generate earthquakes.

In astrology, Neptune's connection to the sea and its symbolism is derived from this rich mythological heritage.

In astrology, Neptune signifies:

Neptune's astrological themes include:

- Illusion vs. reality: Neptune's tendency to blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy.
